Granite Up stands come in 2 sizes, 100mm high and 150mm high, they are normally 20mm thick but can be 30mm if needed is a more minimalistic look, the heights can be cut down to suit your tailored preference, the one problem with granite up stands is that you can only cut them down in height so far as they can become a little brittle the more you cut them down to.Where necessary granite worktops up stands when accompanied with agranite worktops look stunning with a nice clean painted wall, it gives it a stunning look and feel that finishes off the project nicely.
Whenever we carry out worktop replacement we always advise that up stands are used as the old wooden worktops installed has had time to settle into place and is sometimes not as level as we would ideally like, this also means that the walls can sometimes be a little out, up stands on the granite kitchen worktops allow a little play which is some times needed.
Granite up stands are generally priced on the linear metre as we import them already processed ready to install.

Undermount sink cut outs
Undermount sink cut out can come in different forms, the first is the standard single bowl format, this is just a single bowl that sits underneath the granite worktops, most projects that have an undermount sink will accompany them with a set of drainer grooves, its not unusual to see drainer grooves both sides but only when you have the worktop space available.
The second form is bowl and a half single aperture, this is generally one single hole but with 2 inks sitting underneath, one large and one small, again they are usually accompanied with drainer grooves but only into the small bowl, there is no written rule to say that you cannot have the drainer grooves running into the large bowl as it all depends on the look you are trying to achieve.
The third form is a bowl and a half with 2 apertures, this is 2 separate holes with 2 sinks, this can look quite stunning again accompanied with drainer grooves and again into the small bowl, and again you can have grooves running into the large bowl.
The fourth form is what we call a Belfast sink or butler sink, this is generally a square cut and is usually ceramic white although we have seen a number of stainless steel Belfast sinks recently, again they are normally coupled with drainer grooves either 1 set or 2, some times when we have a project that has this type of sink with a granite worktop that is more than 3 meters in length we go for what we call a pieced Belfast where we join the rail at the back of the sink, this creates only 2 very small joints and is definitely the neatest option in this circumstance.
Undermount sinks generally come with a manufacturer’s template, we can then form a solid template off this that is applied to our machine and cuts to the desired shape, if for any reason you do not have a template then we will take the sink away and form a template off this.
The most important factor when installing an undermount sink is the support, when we come to the point that a decision is being made about the sink we need to asses and advise about the support, the best way to support an undermount sink is to make the unit with a solid top, i.e. 18mm marine plywood flush with the top of the carcase, most cabinets will have a front and back rail pre installed in them, you should remove these and replace with a solid top fitted internally, or mention to your kitchen supplier that you are intending to have an undermount sink and they should advise you accordingly alternatively give our friendly sales team a call on 0161 480 0828 and they will be more than happy to assist.
